Hector Garcia and John Mendez, two men she is slowly beginning to trust, managed to find her a job at a local fitness and martial arts training center. Turns out, the business belongs to someone they know, Joe Yee. Their sales pitch included the fact that it would not only provide her a steady income but also complimentary self-defense training since threats to her safety and well-being were still of concern.
Joe and Janet get off to a rough start, but both reluctantly agreed to the arrangement. It wasn’t long before they were able to develop a satisfactory working relationship. At the same time, she began to wonder about the frequent visits to the gym by Hector and John. Her curiosity grows when John shows up one day, but never leaves through the main entrance. Determined to find out if the gym had a secret entrance, she impulsively drove through the darkened back alley that same night after work. That alone wouldn’t be so bad except, once she traveled the length of the alley, a glance in her rearview mirror startled her. Back lit by a streetlight, she could see the silhouette of a man standing at the opposite end. Someone who had been watching her drive through – someone she had driven past and didn’t even know it.
A secret operations center; uneasy feelings that she was still being watched and possibly stalked; plus the team’s professed allegiance to ensure her safety, among many other things, begin to try her already profound issues with trust. And despite her slowly developing comfort level with John and Hector, and now Charlie, in addition to Craig, she still wondered if she could really trust them.
One other unexpected encounter with a man from her past, Frank Bradley, adds another twist to everything. Although he helped with the rescue of her friend Sally, a couple of years ago, she discovers he is also a person of interest to the rest of the team but doesn’t know why. In fact, she is becoming more concerned over the fact that she is also a person of interest – to all of them.
But just as she thought she was beginning to get a grasp of things; another unexpected situation develops. One that would reunite her with yet another man from her recent past, Jeff Dunkirk, aka Greg Danes. He is to escort her to France to appear before a court official. With great trepidation, Janet agrees to go but is convinced these men in her life are attempting to bilk a wealthy family of their massive holdings and investments.
The culmination of this involves a well-kept family secret. But whose family? And why is her participation in this hearing even necessary?
